Jonathan's Wedding Vow

Girasol, I am always struck by you.

Your intelligence, your strength, your compassion, and the way you bring warmth to every room. You guide me in my search for light, for communication, for a better world. Not just a world that sees the best in us, but one that sees everyone, no matter how they behave or what they do.

You told me when we began this relationship that communication was the most important part of it. Not the late nights together, or the trips together, or even the growing old together.

Even though I still think about the communication mix-up on our first date. It made me laugh then, and it still makes me laugh every time my world gets a little dark.

I know now that our love will always be because we communicate.

We listen. We try to understand.

Most importantly, when we don't understand, we keep talking.

You are the person who taught me that love isn't about always knowing what to say. Sometimes it is simply staying long enough to hear what the other person is trying to say.

So, Girasol, I promise to keep listening.

I promise to keep looking for the light with you.

And when one of us cannot find it, I promise the other will keep looking until they do.
